Adventures in the kitchen #9

Last week, I tried this recipe for the very first time and it was a success. I figured out it'd be nice to share with you.
I was quite surprised how easy it was.

Strawberry Cheesecake (Source)

Base Cheese Cake Strawberry sauce
1 package of Cookie (I used Maria)
40g melted butter
4 table spoons of milk

200g Cream cheese (Philadelphia Light)
150g Greek Yogurt
175g Sugarr
5 gelatine leaves
200ml whipped cream
1 table spoons of lemon juice
300g strawberries
100g sugar
2 table spoons of water
1 table spoons of lemon juice

How to:
  1. Smash the cookies into very small pieces and mix it with the butter and milk. Stir it until you reach an homogeneous mix.
  2. Pour it onto a plate and let it rest while you prepare the rest.
  3. Put the gelatin leaves into cold water.
  4. Mix the cream cheese with the sugar until you get a nice and clear mixture.
  5. Whisk the cream with the lemon juice until they get hard (sort of whipped cream).
  6. Dissolve the gelatin leaves in hot water (approx. 3 table spoons). Let it cool down and then add it to the cream cheese mix.
  7. Add the whipped cream to the cheese mixture and gently stir them together.
  8. Pour this onto the cookie base and let it rest in the fridge until it's hard (preferably over night)
For the strawberry sauce, all you got to do is to put all the ingredients in a pan and let it cook in low fire. Once the strawberries get soft enough, pour it in the blender and that's it! Make it as liquid as you want and you're done!

Before you serve the cheesecake, pour the strawberry sauce over it and voilá! Ready to go!!!!

I forgot to add a side-view pic... Next time!

I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!!
A new round of cheesecake will be prepared veeeery soon! :-)

Bom apetite!

Fitness | Back in time

Hello there!!! :-)

In my recent workout routine, I introduced a good old hobby of mine, back form my childhood.
Never expected that it'd become so difficult to do it again, and it would make me sweat like crazy!!
Back in the days, in between classes, we would do this every time just for the fun.
Some of the benefits of this exercise are:

  • Muscle Tone
  • Weight Loss
  • Increase Cardiovascular Fitness

There are plenty of exercises, that you can find all over the internet. The key is: have a good pair of sneakers, don't overdo it and take it easy.
What am I talking about?!

Jumping rope!!!

I try to follow this YouTube video, but it's very demanding!

Oh, and it's cheap! All you need is to get a rope (which should cost less than 10EUR) and you're good to go!

Have you tried this already? :-)

Why, Lily??

I have to talk about something that, first got my attention and second, it disturbed me quite some...
The other day, while driving back home from work, I was listening to the radio. Obviously, nothing interesting, at least to my musical taste, therefore, it was just to keep me company.
Pop songs, one after other and then the well known Lily Allen brakes in.
Never paid much attention to her, but  when you're in a traffic jam, you start listening to something that in most cases it'd just be "background noise". That was the case with the newest single from Lily Allen, called Hard Out Here.

Now the question is: Why?!
Well, please read the lyrics below:

I suppose I should tell you what this bitch is thinking
You'll find me in the studio and not in the kitchen
I won't be bragging 'bout my cars or talking 'bout my chains
Don't need to shake my ass for you 'cause I've got a brain

If I told you 'bout my sex life, you'd call me a slut
When boys be talking about their bitches, no one's making a fuss
There's a glass ceiling to break, uh-huh, there's money to make
And now it's time to speed it up 'cause I can't move at this pace

Sometimes it's hard to find the words to say
I'll go ahead and say them anyway
Forget your balls and grow a pair of tits

It's hard, it's hard, it's hard out here for a bitch
It's hard for a bitch (for a bitch) for a bitch,
It's hard
It's hard out here for a bitch
It's hard for a bitch (for a bitch) for a bitch,
It's hard
It's hard out here

If you're not a size six, then you're not good looking
Well, you better be rich, or be real good at cooking
You should probably lose some weight 'cause we can't see your bones
You should probably fix your face or you'll end up on your own

Don't you want to have somebody who objectifies you?
Have you thought about your butt? Who's gonna tear it in two?
We've never had it so good, uh-huh, we're out of the woods
And if you can't detect the sarcasm, you've misunderstood

A bitch, a bitch, a bitch, bitch, bitch [4x]

Inequality promises that it's here to stay
Always trust the injustice 'cause it's not going away
Inequality promises that it's here to stay
Always trust the injustice 'cause it's not going away

[Chorus 2x]

So, I think it's clear right?!
Is this the point that the music industry got to???
I can imagine how many teens listen to this.....

Lily, this is NOT the way to do it, girl!

Beauty | Goodies from PT

Hi there!!! :-)

During Easter, I went back to Porty-land to visit family and friends, but also did some shopping! :-)
Today, I'm showing the goodies I got there.

  • Benefit they're real mascara
  • Benefit the POREfessional
  • KIKO Unlimited Stylo 012 which is a lovely burgundy /dark pink here's an example.
  • KIKO nail polishes in #340 (blue) and #376 (pink)

So far, I'm loving both Benefit the POREfessional and the lipstick from KIKO. But, the Benefit mascara still didn't do anything for me yet... I've heard so many great things about, but let's give it a few more time.
I will soon do a review about these babies, for sure!!!

Adventures in the kitchen #8

Hi there!!!

Today, I bring you a super healthy, easy, fresh and yet, delicious meal.
The other day, after working out, I had this craving for a salad. After checking what was available in the fridge, this is what I came up with:

What will you need:
-   Chicken breast
-   Lettuce & rucola
-   1/2 Red paprika
-   1 Tomato
-   1 Small onion
-   1 Egg - boilled

Basically, just cut everything in small pieces, mix it all together and voilá! Ready to go!
As topping, I used the good old olive oil, but you can add whatever.
I'm a huuuuge fan of salads and it's great because youc an easily come up with a new recipe every day, depending on what's in your fridge.

What I can guarantee, is that this was delicious meal and super healthy! :-)

Bom apetite,

Fitness | How I use my fitness ball

Hi there!! :)

So, last week I talked about doing something if you are not satisfied with your body or appearance. As I mentioned, I usually work out 3 times/week, somewhere between 30 to 45min.
The fitness ball I purchased, it comes with a DVD including a 6min warm up routine, 22min exercise (2 rounds of 11 exercises) and 6 min stretching.

None of these steps should be skipped; always warm before exercising and always stretch afterwards. This will prevent injuries, and I remember from back in the days how bad muscle injuries hurt...

In the following video you can see a summary of the exercises in the dvd. Of course, all over the internet you can find any other exercises and for me what works best is just to introduce new exercises every now and then, to keep it exciting and not so routine.

I am super happy I took this step and I can already notice that I lost some fat around my waist!!
Can't wait for later today to go and do these exercises again! Once you pass the first days and overcome the pain, it sort of becomes addictive and fun. :-)

Post #100 - An Epic evening

To celebrate post #100, here are some pics & videos from an Epic evening; the cd release show of Epica! This kind of events are always a great opportunity to meet people form all over the world and I love it!!! :-D
Now to main subject: the show: It was great, the whole production was amazing and the lights were just.... wonderful.
Obviously, this is all irrelevant if the music wouldn't be good, but damn... the new songs are just mind-blowing!!!!

The band was tight and they all performed at their best. You could see on their faces the joy of being on stage again. For a band that tours as much as they do and has been out there for 10 years, it's quite remarkable. All I can say is that I hope they stick around for 10 more years, kicking some major asses out there and with their new cd, The Quantum Enigma, that shouldn't be a big problem!

It's a killer album!!!

As time goes by, some bands decide to reinvent themselves in a more mainstream/poppy like sound, but these guys&girl have taken the non-easy exit, in this music industry. They stay true to themselves, yet refreshing but definitely they do not do music for the masses or at least, not with that in mind.
And you know what? That's what I appreciate in a band; a band that's able to refresh, innovate but yet, stay true to themselves and their sound.
On the other hand, TQE will take some time for me to digest but that's just great; all my favorite albums went through the very same process. If it's to easy to listen to, then it's not good enough for me. I like albums that always have something new to discover (it might have something to do with my scientific background), and the TQE is full with that!

Here are a few pics:

Pictures by and there you can find a lot more!!!

Some videos:

I sure had a great time!!!

If you still don't have a copy of the TQE, you can find it here: Epica Webshop

P.S.: this is my honest opinion about the show/cd without any bias.

Beauty | Goodies from NYC

Hello there,

I hope you are having a good weekend!
Today, I would like to talk about the goodies I brought from NYC. Not much stuff, even though it's tempting to go crazy shopping there, but I had to keep in mind that there's a life after NYC, if you know what I mean (a.k.a bills to pay). whahahaha

Anyway, back to the subject! In NYC, there are pleeeeenty of drugstores where you can find good beauty items for a very decent price. Not only the dollar it's weaker than euro, but also the prices are much lower! Like... muuuuch lower.
An example: a Maybelline mascara, it's about 14-15€ (here in the Nl), whereas in NYC they were $7-8. I was shocked!!!
Of course, I had the right "excuse" to stock up some stuff! hahaha
These are the things I bought there:

-   Seche Vite: an amazing top coat that dries your nail polish in no time!
-   2 Essie nail polishes:
          -  #472 A list
          -  # 388 Carry On
-   OPI nail polish in Coney Island Cotton Candy
-   Covergirl Lashblash Volume Mascara
-   Wet 'n Wild in:
          -  381B Sweet as Candy trio
          -  335 Silent Treatment trio
          -  736 Petal Pusher (8 eye-shadow pallet)
-   Burt's Bees Cuticle Cream (not on picture)

I will eventually talk about these products, but so far, I'm really happy with the deals I got! Super cheap (compared with European prices) and amazing products.

On a side note, I have no intend to turn this blog into a beauty blog!
My intention is just to share thought/opinions on products I find interesting, and since beauty/make-up is one of my interests, I feel like sharing. Of course, I can also talk about Physics and stuff, but maybe you get bored! hahahaha

Adventures in the kitchen #7

On this week's recipe, I bring you some super easy but tasty!
Great to kick off your weekend.: PANCAKES!!!

I mean, who doesn't like them?!
These aren't too sweet but you can always sweeten them up, as you like.

Ingredients (ratio1:1) for approx.10:
-   1 cup of flour
-   1 cup of milk
-   1 egg
-   a bit of sugar

How to:
-   Mix the flour with the milk
-   Add the egg and stir all together
-   Add a bit of sugar
-   Done! :-) Make sure your pan is hot enough.
-   Once one of the sides start getting some bubbles, flip them around.

My favorite is honey and cinnamon but you can also jam, Nutella, caramel, fruit, sugar powder... whatever you can imagine! They go well with almost anything. Oh, and they are very spongy! Yummie!!!

Bom apetite!!
