On a Trip through Portugal – Lamego

Hello

On today’s post, I am giving continuation to this series where I bring you along my summer vacation through Portugal and its lovely and enchanting towns.

All the ones mentioned in this series have something in common: they are not obvious touristic destinations if you are visiting the country for the first time. And that’s exactly my point: I would love to show you more of Portugal so you can see for yourself that there’s more besides Lisbon, Porto or the Algarve region.
And even to my eyes, they are very distinct and you won’t get the feeling of “oh I’ve seen this before”. At least, I and Mr.A did not have.
So come along…

Location

Lamego is a city and municipality in the Viseu District, in the Norte Region of the Douro in northern Portugal. Located on the shores of the Balsemão River. It is known for its historical center and the majestic Cult of Nossa Senhora dos Remédios.

Where to stay

Since Lamego isn’t that big, it was quite hard to find a nice place to stay within our budget. For two nights only, I normally don’t like to spend too much.
We ended up staying at Solar dos Pachecos right in the heart of the city center. To be completely honest, the property is great and has tremendous potential but it didn’t “wow” us. It felt quite dated and the staff though kind it wasn’t as good we expected.
There are better options, but like always, it depends on how much you want/can spend.

Where to eat

After checking Tripadvisor, we ended up at Restaurant Manjar do Douro.
The food was very good and price reasonable but the drinks were way overpriced. But when you are having a good meal you can’t just have a glass of water… So we had to give in…
Price range: $$-$$$

When we arrived in Lamego, about 3 pm it felt like we went into an oven! The temperature outside as about 36C which forced us to stay indoors until almost sunset That is why this first day there aren’t that many photos to share. Wait until day 2 is out; it will be photo overdose! haha
I hope you enjoyed this 1st day in Lamego!
