Netflix - Current TOP 5 favorites

Top 5 Netflix favorites of this moment. Includes House of Cards, The Good Wife, How to Get Away with Murder, Designated Survivor and the Blacklist.

How's everyone doing? Over here all is going well, with the Autumn slowly kicking in.
You know, with the days getting shorter, it feels extra nice, after dinner, to just sit back, grab a blanket and watch some of my favorite series (or a movie).

Beauty | Setting Spray battle

Setting spray, a thing I thought it was totally unnecessary and just a waste of time and money.
My skin is not super oily, on the contrary, so I thought after powder that would be just enough but somehow, my makeup never really lasted as much as I expected or wanted.

Beauty | The Balm Meet Matte Hughes

On today's post, I thought I'd share my thoughts on the theBalmⓇ Meet Matt(e) Hughes liquid lipsticks with you.
I have these for a while now and I am super happy with them; not only they apply beautifully but they wear for a very long time; they will survive beverages and most meals (as long as not too greasy).

On a Trip through Portugal - Guarda

For this year's summer vacation, I and Mr.A decided to go once again on a road trip in the northern region of Portugal and visiting other cities we haven't been.
To be more accurate, that he hasn't been. Sometimes I feel like I miss my calling as a Tour Guide or Travel Agent.

52 Week Photo Challenge - Week #32

Patterns and Portuguese Tiles combined, found on a church's facade in Braganรงa, Portugal.
By now, I am sure you recognize my endless search for beautiful patterns and some sort of "addiction" for it. Can't help it!
Saw this from across the street and of course had to snap them.

I will soon start sharing with you the beautiful sights I saw while on holiday.

Hope you like today's preview!

Top 5 things I dislike about traveling

How are you all doing?
On this side of the screen, things are going great. The holiday is going fantastic, with many many nice memories to soon share with you. Also, quite some km on my legs & feet... Soon more about this subject! haha

While on holiday, I like to travel and visit new places, which doesn't necessarily mean going very far away. I love going from place to place, and experience new things. Apparently, this goes really well with my name's meaning:

Barbara as a girls' name is pronounced BAR-bra.
It is of Latin origin, and the meaning of Barbara is "foreign woman".

Don't worry, this post is not about my name. ๐Ÿ˜‰

How to clean your mirrorless camera sensor

If you are reading this post maybe you are going through the same issue I had not so long ago: dust particles on your mirrorless camera sensor.

First things first: relax! It is not the end of the world.

When you have the opportunity to exchange lenses with your camera, the chances increase that while you are doing so, some dust particles will land in your camera's sensor.

But how do you know if your sensor is dirty?
Well, if you see dark spots on your photos that remain always in the same place no matter what you are shooting, it could be dust.

See the white dust particles?...

52 Week Photo Challenge - Week #29

This week's entry on this challenge comes with a nice bonus as well; it is my post number 300!!!

I have written 300 stories in this blog and this year I am enjoying it more than ever. And I hope so are you, my dear reader!
When I first started this blog I knew I wanted a place to "ventilate" or just simply share my experiences as an immigrant.
There have been a few bumps along this road but that makes it extra special.

Beauty | Top 3 every day lipsticks

Ever since I finished my teeth whitening treatment (read more about it here), I have started wearing lipstick on more frequent basis.
I have always liked lipstick but did not really dare to wear it as it would draw attention to my super yellow teeth, which as you can imagine, was not nice.

But now, that my teeth have a normal color, it's been nice to just experiment and try new things.
I did not have a lot of lipsticks before due to this fact; this meant, I had to get new ones. What a terrible thing... ๐Ÿ˜Š

On a normal day, I like to keep my makeup as simple and easy as possible; not only it's faster in the morning but it is also more "work approved". In my working environment, that aren't many women and even less with a made up face.

Therefore, I decided to share with you, the three lipsticks I use the most on my everyday makeup for work.

52 Week Photo Challenge - Week #28

One of the things that the Dutch have in common with us Portuguese is their love for tile and details. Both countries have mastered the art of making amazing things with tiles.
While strolling around, I spotted this little piece of art.
The colors, the detail, the sense of proudness of Dutch architecture... it all caught my eyes.
Yes, I have a thing for details...

The sights of the Netherlands | Alkmaar pt2

A couple of weeks ago, I shared the first part of my visit to beautiful Alkmaar. In case you missed that post, check it HERE.
So I figured, it was about time to come here and share some more of the beautiful sites of this town.

In a town like Alkmaar, you really do not need a map; perhaps Google Maps comes in handy every now and then, but you can easily wonder around the streets and enjoy the sights without being afraid of getting lost.

I loved to see all the typical Dutch sights. I hope you like too...
Come join me!

An evening with ANATHEMA - Concert Photos

WARNING: picture heavy post

As promised on the latest post for the photography weekly challenge (see here), today I am sharing with you some of the photos I took at the Anathema show in Nijmegen.
It was the first show I shot with my 35mm f1.8 lens and I believe I got better results than I would have gotten with the kit lens.
The downside of it is that I did not have zoom available unless I would move around the venue, and eventually veeeery close to the stage.
The venue was sold out, therefore, moving was not so easy. That is why all photos have a similar perspective, even though I tried to get a bit creative.

Also, I wanted to enjoy the show meaning I wasn't constantly photographing. After all, I was there to see the band and as a plus, to be able to practice and see how far I could get with the Sony a6000 + SEL35F18 combo.

Help me through this learning curve and give me your feedback; whether is positive or not.

Enjoy the "show"!

365 days...

... without you.

They said time would help and it would ease the pain.
But it hurts just as much as it did 365 days ago.
Or perhaps even more.

I wish I had been there and have the chance to say one last goodbye.
Life is not the same since the day you left.
And it never will.

Wherever you are, I miss you more than words can say...
And I always will.

Till we meet again, nanna.

52 Week Photo Challenge - Week #26

Some days ago, I went to see one of my favorite bands, Anathema, and after some consideration, I decided to take the chance and bring my camera along. This time, I took the 35mm lens instead of the kit lens.
Even though I would loose the possibility of zooming, I gained a LOT by having a much larger aperture.
If you want to know more about this lens then, please check this post.

Throughout the whole show, I tried to get some nice photos keeping in mind some advice I got from good friends that know the drill.
The photos will be online soon; I will let you know via my social media!

Here is a little preview of what's coming and it marks week 26 of this challenge. Hope you like it.

Week 26/52
Spotlights on demand

What kind of music do you like to listen?
How often do you go to shows?

Even though there is this shaky hand on the lower part of the photo, I still like it a LOT. My eyes just stay focus on the lights and not so much on the hands, to be honest.

Photography | What's new

Today's post is a little update on my photography set up.
Recently, I bought a new lens for my Sony a6000 as I noticed that for indoor photography my kit lens could not (or I wasn't able) give me the results or type of photographs I was looking for.

When shooting indoors, I mostly do food or products (yeah, I will start sharing a few more of those here) and normally, the light condition is not so good anymore.
After some extensive research and debating if I should or not put some money into this or not, I finally made up my mind and order a Sony SEL35F18. This means it is a 35mm lens with a maximum aperture of 1.8.
It comes with two caps (front & back) and lens hood.
Why I choose this lens? Well, since the Sony a6000 is not a full frame and has a cropped factor of about 1.53, this lens will be an equivalent of a 50mm on a full frame camera.
I watched and read several reviews, but there was one that really helped me out. Watch the video here.
So far, I have used this lens only for product photography and I am super happy with the results! It allows me to take nice sharp photos even in low light conditions due to the large aperture number.
Since this lens has a fixed focal length, in order to "zoom in or out" you must move forward or backward. A little bit of exercise hurt nobody, right?
The back of the lens.
In the near future, I want to take this baby out on the street and see what I can come up with.

What is your photography set up?
Do you have a favorite lens (or lenses)? Share your thoughts with me!
Let's be geek together! ๐Ÿ˜Š

52 Week Photo Challenge - Week #25

Facade [noun]
1. the principal front of a building, that faces onto a street or open space;
2. a deceptive outward appearance.

Week 25/52

Are you a person who cares of facades or you can skip that when it comes to people?

I have the tendency to follow my intuition and if I don't like the "facade" of a person, most likely we will not get along.

When it comes to buildings, I looooove to stare at them; just like this one on the photo.

By the way, this post also marks the very photo taken with my new lens! ๐Ÿ˜
Soon a post on that.

An evening with EPICA - Concert photos

WARNING: picture heavy post

There is a big chance that most people reading this post know the background but for those of you who may not, my boyfriend plays drums in a band.
So, a week ago I had the opportunity to check out Mr.A and his "compadres" playing in Dordrecht.
It was a fantastic show; both crowd and band were on top of their game and the synergy between both was just amazing.

Never I had seen such an intense Dutch crowd...

I thought to myself: "this is a great chance to go and take some photos".
During soundcheck, I wanted to try out my new lens but totally forgot to use it (fail...) and ended up using the kit lens all the time, and also during the show.

Now, let's make a few things clear before I overload you with photos:
I am not a PRO nor I have a "concert photography" setup. I just used my Sony a6000 with the kit lens. Also important to mention that I was quite far from the stage.
But hey: I tried!

A little reminder: all photos are my property. If you decide to use them then please give credits and do not cut or remove watermarks. Be cool, ok?๐Ÿ˜‰

All photos w/ Sony a6000 & SEL1650

Now, tell me: did you like the photos? Have you got any favorite?
Also, I am willing to learn more so be free to share tips & tricks with me in the comments below. Much appreciated!

If you got curious about the band then please check epica.nl to get to know them and maybe even check them out live! It will be fun I can guarantee you!

See you soon!
